Dear Di,

I spoke with you a few nights ago on the phone regarding the article about you in the Cairns Post. I mentioned I was keen to write to you and say how amazing I thought your artwork was and more importantly, what an amazing person you must be! You’re “life journey” just seemed one of overcoming so many obstacles. Your family should be very proud of your achievements and independence.

I will send this article down to Key College, a small I started for the charity “Youth off the Streets”. It’s situated in Surry Hills and caters for homeless youth. Stories like yours can often keep these young people heading in a positive direction. Sometimes they feel they are the only ones facing adversity. To try and move them out of “victim” mode can be difficult. To try and get them to give up their dole/pension is also a big thing for them. They’ll certainly be impressed with your artwork. They all seem to have an inner sense of beauty which I don’t find often in the average teenager.

We left Cairns yesterday to continue our “Around OZ” trip. It’s great to be on the road again, however, you do live in a great part of the world. I wish you well in the future.

Regards,

Min Bonwick.
